Testimonial for work carried out at St Michael’s Church, Framlingham by the Suffolk Organ Company

"The Suffolk Organ Company, Director Timothy Artiss, was commissioned by me, on behalf of the Rector and Parochial Church Council of St Michael’s Church, Framlingham, to take over the care and maintenance of our historic 1684 Thomas Thamar organ in 2025.

This has proved to be an excellent decision. Timothy Artiss is an immensely experienced craftsman with a very detailed knowledge of his subject, having over many years tuned, maintained and restored numerous instruments of different makes and sizes, including historic examples. His work is painstaking and precise, with both technical and aesthetic elements taken into consideration. The Thamar organ has greatly benefited from his work. With that in mind, I asked him to undertake renovation of our 1797 chamber organ. It had been out of use for a couple of years. Mr Artiss made an extremely fine job of restoring it and for some months now we have had the great pleasure and advantage of using it on most Sundays to accompany the choir’s Communion anthems and motets. It is also there to be used as a continuo instrument for concerts. Mr Artiss is always respectfully at pains to consult with me regularly to ensure that I am happy with his proposed solutions to various issues that have arisen. His professional charges for all the work he has undertaken are very reasonable compared to those of other firms. Furthermore, he is always quick to respond and oblige whenever any emergency has arisen. He is totally reliable and supportive.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Suffolk Organ Company to any individual or church looking for a trustworthy and cost-effective service."

All Saints’ Church, Kenton, 2024

Work carried out: including wood worm treatment, Manual Coupler adjusted, Bellows repaired, Pedal Board overhauled.

"Our Rayson organ was repaired with some parts given a total overhaul and refurbishment by Mr Artiss and his assistant in 2024. Mr Artiss is clearly an expert in organs and is extremely thorough and diligent in his work. He carefully analysed the problems with the organ and provided practical solutions including tips to the PCC for ongoing maintenance. He dealt with the woodworm, repaired the bellows and refurbished / overhauled the pedal board, improved the operation of the manuals coupler and generally covered every aspect of the organ.

The PCC were delighted with his work and are happy to continue to retain Mr Artiss to maintain the organ.”

St Mary Magdalene – DEBENHAM – Suffolk 2024

Work carried out: Bourdon and Pedal Coupler faults corrected; Organ tuned.

"Our church organ needed a complete retune to accommodate the requirements of a professional musical ensemble to perform a recital in the church. The Suffolk Pipe Organ Company undertook the work for us which was complex, very involved and time consuming. Every pipe in the organ had to be re-tuned. At the end of the project, the organ sounded fantastic and made us realise how long overdue the work was. We were delighted with the end results and would thoroughly recommend Tim and his team for any type of church organ servicing or repair works – and all at very reasonable cost."

Wenhaston Parish Church 2020

Work carried out: Bellows re-leathered, Concussions Bellow re-leathered, and Organ cleaned.

"On behalf of the PCC of St Peter's, Wenhaston I would like to thank you for the very professional job you undertook on the Organ in the Church, wherein you not only completed the work which had been agreed but also some extra tasks which cropped up. I was impressed especially with the very helpful way you presented your estimate and invoice, which included photographs of the work required and was set out in terms that a layperson could understand, making my task of getting agreement from the PCC that much easier. Similarly I welcomed the way you kept me informed when you would be at the church, and how you dealt with the issue of storage of those parts of the Organ removed so that the work could be carried out.

I would have no hesitation in recommending you to other churches who require any work to be carried out"
